Review Policy: How We Verify and Moderate Reviews

Short answer: only restaurant owners and managers who hired a listed company can review it. Every review waits in a moderation queue, and we publish it only after we confirm the job month, area and company. We apply the same rules to good and bad reviews, and companies cannot pay to add, hide or reorder reviews. Last verified:

Who can write a review

  • The owner or a manager of the kitchen that hired the company, about a job in the last 24 months.
  • Not the company, its staff, owners or relatives, and not a competitor. Company accounts on this site cannot post reviews.
  • One review per company per person. No anonymous reviews: we need a name to show and an email we can contact (the email is never shown).

What every review needs

  • The month of the job, the city or borough, what was done, a 1 to 5 rating and at least 80 characters about your own experience. Star-only reviews are not accepted.
  • We may email you to ask for an invoice, work order or service report. If we cannot confirm the job, the review is not published.

How we moderate

Every review is checked by a person before it appears. We do not publish a review, or we remove part of it, only for reasons we apply to every review whatever its rating:

  • We believe it is fake, or we cannot confirm the job.
  • It states as fact something that is clearly false or misleading, or accuses a person of a crime.
  • It contains threats, harassment, hate, obscene content or discrimination.
  • It includes personal information (home addresses, phone numbers, names of staff) or confidential business information.
  • It is not about this company’s hood cleaning work, or it was paid for or rewarded in any way.

Reviews are the opinions of the people who wrote them, not ours. We do not edit what reviewers say; we may only remove parts for the reasons above.

Companies can respond

A company that has claimed its listing can post one public response to each review. Responses are moderated by the same rules: no threats, no personal information about the reviewer and no accusations the company cannot back up. Companies cannot pay to remove, hide or reorder reviews, and no payment of any kind (now or if we ever add paid options) has any effect on reviews.

Disputes and corrections

If you believe a review breaks these rules, use our corrections and right of reply page. Tell us which review and why. We look at the facts, may ask both sides for documents, and keep, edit out the part that breaks the rules, or remove the review. We reply within 5 business days.

Star averages

We show an average rating, and add it to the page’s structured data, only when a company has at least 3 verified reviews. Some listings can also show the company’s Google rating and up to 5 Google reviews, loaded live from Google Maps only when you click, with Google’s attribution and links. We do not store, edit, filter or reorder them, and they are never counted in our average or added to our structured data.

Our promise on reviews

We publish every review that meets this policy, positive or negative. We never offer money, discounts or anything else for a review, never ask only happy customers to write one, and listed companies cannot pay to remove, hide or reorder a review they do not like.

Rules we follow: the FTC Rule on the Use of Consumer Reviews and Testimonials (16 CFR Part 465). This page is a plain-language policy, not legal advice. See also our methodology.
